STROKE
A
stroke occurs when a blood clot does not allow blood to flow to the brain.
Unable to receive oxygen due to a blockage caused by a clot, our brain cells or
neurons die, and this is the reason why we must act fast. The most common cause
of this is related to the narrowing of blood vessels that come from the heart
by fatty plaques that block the arteries, hence the importance of us to eat as
healthy as possible.
The
stroke is global statistics as the second leading cause of death and doubles
the number of deaths from traffic accidents. The chance of having a stroke
increases with age, exceeding deaths from heart attacks.
This
condition is very serious because it affects men, women and young people as
well. Unfortunately these people have been affected by the quality of life
leading with abundant physical inactivity, consumption of junk food, and
drug use such as smoking and alcohol.
According
to statistics 20% of people who had a stroke die the next month, the vast
majority of survivors will have a lot of negative consequences, some become
dependent on others for the rest of their life. Many of them will not be
able to return to play their role in their professional and personal life for
themselves, so they will become dependent on other people to take care of them.
Hence the great importance that everyone in our home can recognize the signs
and symptoms of this event as serious health problem.
Sudden numbness or numbness in the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body.
Confusion or trouble understanding.
Difficulty speaking.
Drooling.
Trouble walking.
Dizziness.
Loss of coordination.
severe headache of unknown origin.
Loss of vision.
Loss of consciousness.
Causes
of a stroke:
High
blood pressure.
Obesity.
Tobacco
and alcohol consumption.
High
cholesterol.
Fat
deposits in the veins and arteries hardening are some of the effects of a poor
diet, sedentary lifestyle, smoking and alcohol consumption.
Signs and symptoms:
Now to understand this better, I would like to clarify that a sign is what you or the doctor can detect with the naked eye as bleeding, vomiting, red skin etc. A symptom is what the person says feel like dizziness or headache.
If someone around shows any of the symptoms shown above, you should immediately call
911 because it is very important that the person be treated as soon as possible
to reduce the impact on health, and try to reduce the potential consequences of
this event. The
sooner the person receives medical care, the fewer consequences will get.
Meanwhile, lay on your back with the head and shoulders slightly elevated
person. Loosen the clothes and turn the head of the person to the left side to
facilitate the evacuation of saliva or vomit. Keep quiet person until help
arrives.

Better safe than sorry
Recent researches say that 80% of strokes are preventable if we eat a healthy diet, avoid alcohol and tobacco, if we exercise at least 30 minutes daily, and control risk factors such as hypertension or high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels and sugar .
Periodically check the blood lipids. Check your blood sugar by periodic
laboratory tests. Controlling blood cholesterol involves having a balanced diet
and daily exercise. Our diet should be rich in fruits and vegetables, grains,
fish, lean meat or fat-free, avoid excess salt and sugar.
Stop
smoking and drinking alcohol.
Control
periodically blood pressure in any pharmacy in our country or at your local
hospital. In the best, try to purchase your own blood pressure cuff and take
daily your pressure at home and write them down. If your pressure is above
normal levels pay attention 120/80, , take an annotated record, change eating
habits, exercise more, reduce use of salt and participate with your doctor in
the implementation of a plan for improve your lifestyle.
Our
body speaks, let's put the attention required to keep it working well.
Now finally I would like you to share this information with family and friends. What I'm trying to achieve by writing this blog is to save lives, and avoid people through ignorance or neglect not take the necessary measures to address the cries of our body and it does not happen to do so when it is too late.
